- Research and Recovery is committed to the education and preservation of American History. We are a group of people who use metal detectors to locate and recover American Civil War relics and artifacts, coins and jewelry as well as helping people find lost personal items.
During the Civil War, many families were faced with tough times and decisions. Like most, my Great-Great-Great Grandfather, Robert 'Robin' Alford had to fight. He was sixty-eight years of age while serving for the CSA. He was shot through the thigh while in Tennessee, serving in Witcher's Battalion. He was badly crippled by his injury, leaving one leg seven inches shorter than the other(notice the crutches in image). - Fast-forward about 140 years. During one hot summer, I traveled to Tennessee. While there, I decided to metal detect property for a lost heirloom. While I came up short on finding the lost heirloom, I did stumble upon a button. It turned out to be a very rare Civil War button. I had been searching in a campsite that was once used by the Confederate Army.
This ignited a huge interest to bring fellow treasure hunters along with me on my hunts. While I couldn't have tons of people on family property, I wanted to figure out a way for others to enjoy the thrill of finding history. This is when filming each hunt was the obvious choice.
